Draft Profile: Isaiah Coulter
- Height: 6’2″
- Weight: 198lb
- College: Rhode Island
- Tape watched: Ohio, Virginia Tech
- NFL Comparison: Tajae Sharpe
Pros
- Release
Coulter is a twitchy receiver that varies his speed and steps well. He uses good head fakes and sets defenders up with his body language. Best kept in a vertical plane, Coulter fires of the line and climbs his route stem efficiently.
- Catch Radius
Coulter has an outstanding catch radius for his arm length and frame. He is able to snatch balls out of the air with authority. He adjusts well to poorly thrown footballs and is composed on the sideline, almost always ensuring two feet in bounds.
- Contested Catches
Coulter showed good composure in traffic, and doesn’t lose focus of the football.
Cons
- Lateral Agility
Coulter has super stiff hips in all situations. He struggles to fluidly snap off route breaks and he won’t make a lot of defenders miss at the next level.
- Route Tree
Vertical planes are Coulter’s calling card. He struggled when asked to significantly change directions, including hitches and curls. Once he gets going, his long strides and 4.4 speed show up big, however.
- YAC
Not a true knock on his game, but Coulter doesn’t make defenders miss or break a lot of tackles. However, if he can find the ball in space his explosiveness can do damage.
Overview
A limited sample size coming out of Rhode Island, Coulter did nothing but improve his draft stock at the combine. With true 4.4 speed and good acceleration traits, Coulter can open up defenses with his athleticism. Teammate Aaron Parker flashed just as much as Coulter in college, and the two complimented each other well with Coulter’s long game and Parker playing underneath. This could display what Isaiah Coulter can provide an offense, taking the top off of secondaries and being a boundary threat.
