Draft Analysis: Dameon Pierce

  • Height: 5’10”
  • Weight: 218
  • College: Florida
  • Tape watched: UCF, Georgia, Kentucky
  • NFL Comparison: Spencer Ware

Pros

  • Aggression/Drive
An absolute delight to watch, Pierce bows to no one. He is a ball of terror and aims to punish whoever is in his path. He keeps his feet moving and drives the football well. He can move piles and frequently picks up extra yardage.
  • Power
If you want a no funny business running back, look no further. Pierce runs with a ton of power behind his pads. He will run over linebackers, corners, and safeties. He has great contact balance above the waist, frequently shedding tackles.
  • Pass Protection
Near perfection, Pierce is incredibly advanced for a draft prospect in pass protection. Not only is he sound on identifying chips and when to mirror and mash, he can stand up pass rushers. He even drives defenders out of the pocket. His skillset should be coveted for a multiple back system.

Midline

  • Receiving
Pierce has serviceable hands for the position. He was used on a decent array of routes, including choice routes based on defensive coverage. He does not have a ton of experience, but did increase his reception totals each year since his sophomore campaign.
  • Agility
Dameon Pierce has fast feet that manipulate his direction well. He has a nice acceleration that works well with his running type. He does not offer great lateral abilities with jukes, but he will be a great one cut back in the NFL.

Cons

  • Athleticism
Pierce’s athletic profile limits his upside as a running back. He is more of a “you know what you are getting” type of guy. He does not have breakaway speed, great change of direction, or dynamic receiving abilities.

Overview

Dameon Pierce is a true grinding type running back. He is a nightmare to tackle as the game wears on. He punishes defenders that try to square up for the tackle. Pass protection will be a huge calling card for Pierce in the NFL. He can be relied upon to protect quarterbacks in 3rd and long situations. Pair him with someone like Chase Edmunds or Raheem Mostert and you have a complete backfield.
